Intensive Outpatient Care
The intensive outpatient program (IOP) at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is designed to achieve and sustain stabilization and promote positive mental health in adults. The program is an intensive, short-term and highly structured treatment program to help patients maximize gains and prevent relapse or hospital admission/readmission.
A psychiatrist and a licensed mental health professional oversee the program. The patient’s treatment plans are designed specifically for his or her needs and the appropriate amount of group therapy is determined. Group therapy is offered three hours a day, three days a week.
Patients receive:
- Individualized, goal-oriented psychotherapeutic and psychoeducational treatment to support their recovery efforts from mental illness, addiction or both
- Individual, group and/or family counseling
- Treatment for mood disorders, chronic depression, anxiety, gambling addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder, serious mental illness and other co-occurring disorders
- Skills to promote healthy lifestyle changes, recognize and avoid triggers, and relapse prevention
- Coping strategies
- Distress tolerance techniques
- Multidisciplinary treatment/discharge planning
Admission Criteria
- 18 years of age and older
- Psychiatric diagnosis
- Not in imminent danger to themselves or others
- Impaired living skills, role performance, care for self or interpersonal interactions
- The need for direct monitoring is less than daily but more than weekly
- Competent to consent to voluntary IOP treatment
