PBRMC Celebrates National Donate Life Month
4/9/2026
POPLAR BLUFF, MO, April 8, 2026 – April is National Donate Life Month (NDLM), an observance to focus national attention on the need and importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. National Donate Life Month is about the importance of registering your decision to be a donor and honoring deceased and living donors, recognizing that the generosity of donors makes saving lives through transplantation possible. A person is added to the waiting list every 8 minutes in the U.S.
Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is proud to partner with Mid-America Transplant, a member of the Donate Life America network. Through the generosity of organ, eye, and tissue donors, PBRMC has helped touch the lives of 2,500 patients with the gift of life. In 2025 alone, the hospital supported five lifesaving organ transplants and 34 tissue and eye donors, serving 55 families along the way. According to Donate Life America, a single tissue donor can help more than 75 people.
“During National Donate Life Month, we are honored to recognize the gift of donation and our partnership with Mid-America Transplant,” said Clyde Wood, CEO of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
“On a personal note, my brother was an organ recipient, and seeing firsthand how meaningful organ donation can be and how it can change a family’s outcome has made this cause especially close to my heart. We are proud to support families with compassion and care throughout this important journey.”
In Missouri, there are currently 1,700 people awaiting a transplant. And more than 100,000 people across the country are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Thousands more people are waiting for lifesaving and healing cornea and tissue transplants. Because only 3 in 1000 meet criteria for organ donation, it is vital for everyone to register their lifesaving decision to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor. Learning more about and considering living donation is a way you can help those waiting for a second chance at life.
To help participate in Donate Life Month, April 10 is National Donate Life Blue & Green Day and PBRMC invites everyone to show their blue & green colors in support of the Donate Life message and mission. Join PBRMC for their Donate Life Month celebration at 2 p.m. at the Oak Grove Grill inside the hospital at 3100 Oak Grove Road. All are welcome to attend this event, which will include speakers from Mid-America Transplant and the hospital, as well as a special guest appearance from a local donor family.
Registration to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor can be done at www.SayYesGiveLife.org or in the Medical ID tab of your iPhone Health app.
