April is Proclaimed as Poplar Bluff Donate Life Month
4/5/2023
POPLAR BLUFF, MO – April is recognized nationally as Donate Life Month, an observance to focus national attention on the need and importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. It’s about the importance of registering your decision to be a donor and honoring deceased and living donors — recognizing that the generosity of donors makes saving lives through transplantation possible.
In honor of Donate Life Month, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) will host Poplar Bluff’s Mayor on April 14 for a special proclamation. Friday, April 14 is also National Wear Blue & Green Day and we invite everyone to show their blue & green colors in support of the Donate Life message and mission.
PBRMC is a proud partner with Mid-America Transplant. In 2022, PBRMC continued to advance its mission of saving lives through organ and tissue donation. Specifically, the hospital facilitated three organ donations, resulting in five life-saving transplants, as well as 30 eye and tissue donations that have the potential to enhance and save the lives of up to 2,250 individuals.
“For all that are in the toughest of spots to have to make the decision to donate life, there is a recipient that will be allowed to continue living. Our team here at PBRMC is dedicated to making this process the very best for all involved,” said CEO Rick Naegler.
In Missouri, there are nearly 1,900 people awaiting a transplant. And more than 100,000 people across the country are currently waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Thousands more are waiting for lifesaving and healing cornea and tissue transplants. Because only 3 in 1000 meet criteria for an organ donation to take place, it is vitally important for everyone to register their lifesaving decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. Learning more about and considering living donation is a way you can help those waiting for a second chance at life.
Registration to be an organ, eye, and tissue donor can be done at www.SayYesGiveLife.org or in the Medical ID tab of your iPhone Health app.
PBRMC remains both humbled and honored to steward the incredible gifts by the patients and their families who donate by flying the blue & green Donate Life flag in front of our campus for five consecutive days.
