Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Expands Robotic-Assisted Orthopedic Surgery Program with Advanced Joint Replacement Technology
6/8/2026
Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) continues to advance its orthopedic service line with the addition of a new robotic-assisted surgical system designed for total hip and knee replacement procedures. This latest technology enhances surgical precision and supports improved patient outcomes, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to high-quality, innovative care in Southeast Missouri.
The robotic-assisted system utilizes advanced 3D imaging and pre-operative planning to create a personalized surgical approach for each patient. During surgery, the technology assists surgeons in executing that plan with enhanced accuracy, helping preserve healthy bone and tissue while optimizing implant placement.
S. Preston Jones, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at PBRMC, has successfully utilized the technology since January.
“This technology allows us to plan each procedure based on the patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room,” said Dr. Jones. “During surgery, we can make real-time adjustments and execute the plan with a high level of precision. It’s a significant advancement that supports better alignment, improved function, and a smoother recovery for our patients.”
Joint replacement procedures continue to rise nationwide, with demand expected to grow significantly over the next decade. At the same time, studies have shown that a notable percentage of patients remain dissatisfied following traditional joint replacement methods. Robotic-assisted technology aims to address these concerns by improving surgical accuracy and consistency.
Potential benefits of robotic-assisted joint replacement include:
- Less post-operative pain
- Reduced need for opioid medications
- Shorter hospital stays
- Faster recovery times
- Improved joint function and mobility
“We are proud to bring this advanced surgical technology to our region,” said Clyde Wood, CEO at PBRMC. “Expanding our robotic-assisted surgery program reflects our ongoing commitment to providing exceptional care and improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve.”
PBRMC will host a free community event on Friday, June 26, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center’s main campus at 3100 Oak Grove Road in the Oak Grove Grill Classroom (Lower level). Attendees will have the opportunity to see the robotic-assisted surgical system firsthand, learn more about joint replacement options, and hear directly from Dr. Jones. The event will also include time for questions, helping community members better understand how robotic-assisted surgery may benefit patients considering hip or knee replacement.
Registration for the event is free and available online.
