Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Promotes Respiratory Hygiene for a Healthier Community

POPLAR BLUFF, MO – As we approach the flu season, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is encouraging everyone to prioritize respiratory hygiene to maintain a healthy community. Simple preventive measures can go a long way in keeping ourselves and our loved ones healthy during the Fall and Winter seasons.
To help reduce the spread of common respiratory illnesses, the hospital emphasizes the following practices:
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue: Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze helps to contain germs. Be sure to dispose of the tissue immediately and wash your hands afterward.
- Wear a mask if you have symptoms: Consider wearing a mask if you’re experiencing symptoms like a cough or sore throat. It’s a small but effective step to prevent the spread of germs to those around you.
- Practice regular hand hygiene: Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses. When soap and water aren't available, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol is a good alternative.
Integrating these practices into our daily routines can help keep our community healthier. Respiratory hygiene is a simple yet powerful tool in preventing the spread of illnesses, especially during the time of year when colds, flu, and other respiratory infections are more common.
“At Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, our goal is to promote the well-being of our community,” said Clyde Wood, chief executive officer of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. “Practicing good respiratory hygiene is an easy way to contribute to a healthier environment for everyone.”
Stacy Edgar, FNP with Regional Physician Services Primary Care, adds, “I encourage folks to talk with their primary care provider about when to get their flu shot, and other preventative measures patients can take to stay healthy this flu season.”
