Wentzville Man Praises Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Team
Richard “Rick” Lovall of Wentzville, Missouri, experienced a life-changing medical emergency while attending a conference in Poplar Bluff in June 2026. After suffering a transient ischemic attack (TIA or mini-stroke) in his hotel room, his son called 911. Emergency responders arrived quickly, providing both urgent care and reassurance during a frightening moment.
“They did everything in their power to save my life and keep my family calm and informed.”
At Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC), Lovall was met with swift, coordinated care from the emergency department team. He specifically recalls the compassion and thoroughness of his ER nurse and the seamless response that followed, including imaging, cardiac testing, and consultations with both remote and in-house neurologists to initiate stroke protocols without delay.
Throughout his stay, Lovall underwent a series of critical procedures, including a nuclear stress test and heart catheterization performed by Shazib Sagheer, M.D., member of the medical staff at PBRMC, who placed four stents. The cardiac care team left a lasting impression.
“They made me feel like they were caring for their own father.”
Lovall also complimented many team members, including the various providers, nursing aides and techs who contributed to his recovery, ensured he felt informed and at ease during testing, and whose attentiveness and kindness stood out. Even members of the environmental services team made an impact, demonstrating dedication that inspired him during his stay.
“As a fairly active and healthy 50-year-old, this all came as a shock, but every fear I had was quickly addressed by every PBRMC staff member I came in contact with.”
As the president of three church-based financial service companies, Lovall understands the importance of service excellence. He describes his experience at PBRMC as nothing short of exceptional and has since shared it as a model for his own teams.

One moment in particular continues to resonate with him. As he thanked Dr. Sagheer upon discharge, the physician responded with humility and faith:
“God saves lives. We are just His tools.”

Now after recovery, Lovall is enjoying spending time with his wife, Kelby, and sons, Easton and Parker. Lovall says his family is looking forward to trout fishing together creating many more memories for years to come.
