POPLAR BLUFF, MO, April 8, 2025 – Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) has marked a significant milestone in the advancement of surgical care, exceeding 2,600 robotic-assisted procedures. The less invasive robotic-assisted surgical system enables surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and typically offers additional benefits over traditional surgery, such as quicker recovery, reduced blood loss, and less scarring.
“The growth of our robotic-assisted surgery program has transformed surgical care in Southeast Missouri,” said Clyde Wood, CEO. “Thanks to the dedication of the skilled surgical team, more patients have access to robotic procedures that often help them get back to their lives faster and with greater satisfaction.”
The robotic surgical team at PBRMC has expanded to include six surgeons specializing in General Surgery and Gynecology, such as gall bladder procedures and hernia repairs. These skilled professionals utilize robotic technology to enhance visibility, control and access to the surgical site. Robotic-assisted procedures use advanced instrumentation with 360-degree rotation and enhanced tremor control, allowing meticulous movements surpassing human hand capabilities, as well as 3D imaging to improve clarity.
“The growth in robotic-assisted surgery at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center reflects our commitment to innovation and investment that enhances quality and patient care,” said Christi Hubbard, PBRMC's surgical director.
In 2024 alone, the hospital performed more than 8,000 surgeries, with a growing percentage utilizing robotic-assisted technology. For more information about PBRMC’s robotic surgery program, visit PBRMC.com/robotic-surgery-services.
PBRMC hosted a Robot Day event showcasing the latest robotic-assisted technology with which community members, employees, and current nursing students interacted.
