Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Celebrates Second Graduating Class; Welcomes Six New Residents
7/7/2025
POPLAR BLUFF, MO – Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) proudly announces the graduation of its second class of internal medicine residents, alongside the arrival of six new physicians-in-training who will begin their residency this July.
This year’s graduation marks another key chapter in PBRMC’s residency program, which launched in July 2021. Six residents have successfully completed the three-year internal medicine residency, building on the pioneering achievements of the inaugural class.
“This year’s graduating class continues the legacy of excellence,” said Matthew Riffle, M.D., program director for the internal medicine residency program. “Their dedication and resilience have elevated the program’s standard, and they’re setting the bar high for future residents.”
As the second full cohort completes its training, six new residents will join the program in July 2025. These newest additions arrived from diverse backgrounds and were selected from a competitive applicant pool.
“We’re thrilled to welcome this talented group of incoming residents,” said Clyde Wood, CEO of PBRMC. “Adding six more physicians will not only enrich our program but also strengthen the medical care we provide across Southeast Missouri.”
The internal medicine residency remains the only post-graduate medical education program in Southeast Missouri, with the nearest comparable program over 130 miles away. Residency rotations include, in addition to very intensive inpatient rotations, pulmonology, cardiology, emergency medicine, and other core specialties. As of this July, the program will support 20 current trainees across multiple years, affirming its continued growth and importance to regional healthcare.
Among the core faculty guiding both graduating and incoming residents are Associate Program Director Roland Njoh, M.D., Lance Majors, M.D. Syed Anees, M.D. and Mohanad Alfaqih, M.D., along with other members of our medical staff.
