POPLAR BLUFF, MO – Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (PBRMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and is now an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
PBRMC underwent a rigorous, onsite review in March 2023. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards including use of a standardized method of delivering care centered on evidence-based guidelines for stroke; knowledge and rapid assessment of cerebrovascular disease; 24/7 imaging and teleneurology; ability to administer intravenous thrombolytic therapy; and designated beds for acute care of stroke patients to manage and meet medical and recovery needs. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewer also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“Becoming a Joint Commission Stroke Certified facility is just another way the hospital is growing to ensure critical services are available at an expert level. Stroke care is about time to care, and by earning this designation, we have demonstrated the core elements to provide safe, effective and quality stroke care,” said CEO Rick Naegler.
As an Advanced Primary Stroke Center, ischemic stroke patients at PBRMC are able to stay close to home from the onset of signs and symptoms, to treatment and recovery, and through rehabilitation.
“We are driven to the adopt practices to improve stroke patient outcomes and reduce risk for future strokes every day,” said Kim Shackleford, PBRMC Stroke Program Coordinator. “It has been very rewarding to be a part of this process and know how it will impact our community.”
