Poplar Bluff, MO- March 12, 2021-The American College of Cardiology has recognized Poplar Bluff
Regional Medical Center for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients who come
to a cardiac cath lab for care, including diagnostic catheterizations and percutaneous coronary
intervention (PCI) procedures.
Last month, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center was awarded Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI
based on the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the cardiac cath lab.
“Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to providing Poplar Bluff and
surrounding communities with excellent heart care,” said Phillip D. Levy, MD, FACC, chair of the ACC
Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Poplar Bluff Regional
Medical Center with Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI.”
Hospitals receiving accreditation from the ACC must meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria,
including a multifaceted clinical process; a rigorous onsite review; monitoring for sustained success; and
an organized team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and other administrative staff who earnestly support
efforts leading to improved patient outcomes.
“This accreditation demonstrates our heart care team provides consistent evidence-based patient
focused care. We are extremely proud of their commitment to our community, allowing us to fulfill our
mission with providing quality care, close to home.” said Tim O’Neal, Chief Nursing Officer at Poplar
Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Percutaneous coronary intervention is also known as coronary angioplasty. It is a non-surgical procedure
that opens narrowed or blocked coronary arteries with a balloon to relieve symptoms of heart disease
or reduce heart damage during or after a heart attack.
